Beef Broth Rice Cake Soup with Dunplings



Traditionally, tteokguk (rice cake soup) is made with a beef broth, but Beef Broth Rice Cake Soup with Dunplings made with sagol gomtang (beef bone marrow soup) boasts a much richer and deeper flavor. Today, I’m going to share an easy recipe for Beef Broth Rice Cake Soup with Dunplings using sagol gomtang pouch, so you can enjoy this hearty and flavorful dish at home.


With just one bowl of this delicious Beef Broth Rice Cake Soup with Dunplings, you can wish for good fortune and health in the new year!



Ingredients (for 2 servings)


2 pouches of ox bone broth (sagol gomtang)

120g of rice cake slices (tteokguk tteok) – typically, 60-70g per serving

8 dumplings, 100g of beef (chuck or brisket), 1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 stalk of green onion (chopped), 1 tablespoon soy sauce for soup (gukganjang)

A pinch of salt, A pinch of black pepper, 200ml water (adjust based on the broth pouch instructions), 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional), 1 egg (optional, beaten and added to the soup)


How to make it


1. Slice the beef thinly. Trim off any excess

fat, and season with pepper and soy

sauce for soup (gukganjang).

Let it marinate for a while.


2. In a pot, combine the ox bone soup

pouch and 200ml of water. Bring to a

simmer over medium heat, removing

any foam that rises to the surface.


3. In a separate pan, heat sesame oil and

stir-fry the beef. Once the beef is cooked,

add the minced garlic and continue to

stir-fry until the garlic aroma is released.


4. Add the stir-fried beef to the ox bone Buy ingredients here : https://www.galleriasm.com/ broth and let it simmer together.


5. Rinse the rice cakes (tteokguk tteok) in cold water to remove any impurities. Once the

broth is boiling, add the rice cakes.


6. Stir the rice cakes and let them cook. Once they float to the surface, they are done.

Let it simmer for about 5 minutes. Once the rice cakes are almost done, add the prepared

dumplings and cook for another 5 minutes.


7. Chop the green onion and add it to the soup. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

If desired, pour in the beaten egg and let it cook gently before turning off the heat.

Garnish with green onion or other toppings, and your delicious Beef Broth Rice Cake Soup with Dunplings (Sagol tteokmanduguk) is ready to enjoy!
